THE ECONOMIC AND NON-ECONOMIC MOTIVES BEHIND THE NEED FOR ACHIEVEMENT OF CAREER WOMEN

Abstract


Women with careers, and especially those who already married, are almost always in a marginal position. This research is a case study at IAIN Cirebon, using a qualitative descriptive method. This study concluded: (1) The economic motive of career women mostly claimed not to be the main thing. (2) The non-economic motives of women in careers are varied: increase experience, increase self-esteem, apply the knowledge and skills, carry out the mandate, undergo a gradually flowing career, to be free from domestic rush, supported by husband, and motivated children. (3) Causal factors to need for achievement of women’s career: the role of wife only as an additional supporter of the husband's economy, the energy, the mind, and the time are divided into domestic affairs and career, less confident, lack of support of husband and family, and work climate is less to the success of women's career.
