PEMBUATAN MINYAK BIJI KARET DENGAN PENAMBAHAN BENTONIT PADA PROSES BLEACHING MINYAK

Abstract


This study aims to determine the effect of adding bentonite and stirring time in the process of bleaching oil from rubber seeds and to determine the optimal concentration of bentonite and stirring time in increasing the purity of rubber seed oil. This study uses a completely randomized factorial design with 2 factors. The first factor is the concentration of Bleaching Earth (bentonite) which consists of 2 levels. The second factor is the length of the stirring which consists of only 1 level. The combination of these factors consists of 2 treatments. The first factor is the concentration of bleaching earth (bentonite) (2.5%, and 3.0%). The second factor is stirring time (10 minutes). The test parameters are acid number, water content, and organoleptic which include color, aroma and taste. The results showed that the addition of bentonite concentration and length of stirring did not show any significant effect on the acid number, aroma and taste of rubber seed oil. However, the interaction of the two factors significantly influence the value of water content and the color of rubber seed oil. The best concentration of bentonite is 3.0% with a stirring time of 10 minutes, where the acid number is 1 mg KOH / g and the water content is 0.04%.
