MENINGKATKAN KEMAMPUAN CALON GURU PAUD DALAM MENGATASI KEMUNGKINAN TERJADINYA TINDAK KEKERASAN PADA ANAK MELALUI LATIHAN PARENTING

Abstract


This study aims to improve the ability of prospective PAUD teachers in overcoming urgent problems in children through parenting exercises. This research employed action research method following the spiral model proposed by Kemmis and Taggart consisting of planning, action, observation and reflection. The key instrument was the researchers themselves while PAUD teachers were the informants. Data collection is done by interviewing and analyzing related documents. The stages of this research were: 1) preliminary studies, 2) field observations and interviews, 3) discussions with final year of  PAUD students to see their understanding of the skills needed to deal with child abuses, 4) problem analysis, 5) planning actions, 6) implementing actions and observations and 7) reflection. There were three sessions which focused on materials on knowledge and skills in parenting training. Data analysis followed qualitative research principles as follow: 1) student knowledge on child abuses,  and 2) skills in implementing parenting training (guiding parents in providing protection). Data interpretation was carried out by following the development of the results or outputs of each action given to the research subjects. The results showed that students gained new skills in dealing with child abuses through parenting exercises and felt satisfied with the practices. Parents also understood their role in preventing violence against children, namely: (1) encouragement, (2) educators and communicators, (3) supervisors and role models of children, and (4) as a counselor.
