Author Guidelines

Articles submitted for publication in Agenda: Jurnal Analisis Gender dan Agama must conform to the several guidelines.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Author Guidelines

  • Papers should discuss the themes of Gender, Human Rights, children, and Islamic studies, written either in Indonesian, English or Arabic;
  • Papers must be typed in one-half spaced on A4-paper size;
  • Papers’ length is about 20-25 pages;
  • All submission must include a 150-200 word abstract;
  • Full name(s) of the author(s) must be stated, along with his/her/their institution and complete address;
  • All submission should be in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format;
  • The transliteration system is followed by model L.C. (Library of Congress) Style with any correction.
  • Bibliographical reference must be noted in the footnote and bibliography according to the Chicago Manual of Style 17th (Full Note).
  • When a source is cited for the first time, full information is provided: full name(s) of the author(s), the title of the source in italic, place of publication, publishing company, date of publication, and the precise page that is cited. For the following citations of the same source, list the author’s last name, two or three words of the title, and the specific page number(s). The word ibid. maybe used, but op.cit., and loc.cit. are not.

  • Examples of footnote style:
    Books: Nûr al-Dîn ‘Itr, Manhaj al-Naqd fî ‘Ulûm al-Hadîs (Beirut: Dâr alFikr, 1992), 123.
  • Book of translation: Annemarie Schimmel, Rahasia Wajah Suci Ilahi terj. Rahmani Astuti (Bandung: Mizan, 1987), 11.
  • Articles in a book or encyclopedia: Muhammad Zubayr Siddiqi, “Hadith A subject of Keen Interest” Dalam P.K. Kroya (ed.) Hadith and Sunnah Ideals and Realities (Malaysia: Islamic Book Trust, 1996), 7-19.
  • Articles in a journal: M. Alfatih Suryadilaga, “Sejarah Perkawinan Poligami” Jurnal Gender dan Islam Musawa I, (2002), 20.
  • Al-Qur'an: Q.S. al-Nisâ’ (4): 5.

  1. It is suggested to use a reference manager at styling the footnote and the bibliography, such as ZoteroMendeley, et cetera;
